VOICE LESSON
Join former dazzling starlet turned flailing music teacher Allison Spann for a reclamation ritual disguised as a comedic musical revue. Featuring original compositions alongside selections from Cabaret, Sweeney Todd, Carmen, and the Great American Songbook alongside original compositions, Voice Lesson promises a powerhouse performance from the PST alumnus as well as a hysterical meandering into a world of modern fame, destiny, and vocal anatomy.
“Spann’s way with a lyric is so intelligent, and her range so smooth and effortless, I would like to see her return to Princeton, or anywhere, in a full evening of cabaret.”
A Cranbury native, Allison Spann’s artistic lineage includes the stages at Princeton High School, Princeton University, and Princeton Summer Theater. PST credits across the 2018, 2019, and 2022 seasons include Tick Tick Boom, Uncommon Women and Others, The Children’s Hour, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and The Great Gatsby. At Princeton University she was a part of the Creative Large Ensemble (jazz big band) as a solo vocalist, the Glee Club and Chamber Choir, the operas through the music program, and countless productions in the Lewis Center for the Arts. As the 2019 Richardson Artist in Residence, she premiered her first original musical, Masquerade, and presented her research on masks in a Tedx talk that same year. She won the 2020 Princeton Concerto Competition as a solo vocalist, and for her continued work in composition, scholarship, and performance, she was awarded the Edward T. Cone Prize in Music. She owes her varied training to the programs at The Cranbury School and Princeton High School, where she first performed in the Cranbury Arts Council's Summer Programming, grew her jazz chops in the Studio Band, developed a love for classical vocal music through her time in PHS Choir, and spent as much time in theater productions as possible, all while playing on the Varsity Field Hockey team (Go Little Tigers!). She now works as a performer in Brooklyn, New York, and shares her passion for education in her private studio, where she teaches music lovers of all levels and ages
